Kimora Statue (5 feet 5.5 inches)
Kimora
This sculpture combines African and Japanese influences, creating a unique fusion of cultural aesthetics. The figure stands 65.5 inches tall wrapped in a rich magenta textile that flows gracefully down the body, reminiscent of traditional African garments, yet with a minimalistic drape that echoes Japanese kimonos. The fabric’s smooth, layered folds capture the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi—embracing simplicity and natural beauty.
The Nontle Jewelry headdress and accessories incorporate brass, rams horn, cow bone, cowrie shells and fossilized stones resembling African hairstyles but stylized with a hint of Japanese kanzashi hair ornaments. Subtle, dangling embellishments add a ceremonial touch, reminiscent of Japanese geisha adornments, blending cultural traditions with elegance. The calm, poised expression on the figure’s face reflects the Japanese aesthetic of yūgen—a profound sense of grace and mystery—while also exuding the strength and wisdom of African ancestry.
Together, these elements present a harmonious vision of cross-cultural influence, where African and Japanese aesthetics merge seamlessly, symbolizing unity and the beauty of diversity in a futuristic, sculptural form.
